Wireless Device Connections

The varied wireless device connections – Not just about Wi-Fi!

As computer technology has improved and evolved, wireless connections are rapidly becoming the primary connection method for all manner of computer components and devices.  However, when someone says ‘wireless’ to us, most of us automatically first think of Wi-Fi, either in our home or with related hotspots.   Continue reading “Wireless Device Connections”

What is a Flight Simulator?

In broad terms, a flight simulator is defined as;

“a device that artificially re-creates aircraft flight and the environment in which it flies, for pilot training, design, or other purposes. It includes replicating the equations that govern how aircraft fly, how they react to applications of flight controls, the effects of other aircraft systems, and how the aircraft reacts to external factors such as air density, turbulence, wind shear, cloud, precipitation, etc.”

However, the types of simulator that will be mainly featured here fall into the realms of amateur flight simulators, which aren’t quite as rigidly defined.

Moving my Virtual Home…

Just a very quick note to say that I’ll be attempting to transfer all of my previous posts across from my other blog over the next few days.

Over the last few days, I’ve been moving the blog from it’s old home, over on Blogger, to it’s new home here on WordPress.  The process was actually a lot more straightforward than I’d anticipated and, as of today, it’s more or less up and running.

H&S Design’s Eurocopter EC135 (Freeware/FSX)

Taking a tour around Ireland in a fun freeware helicopter

Introduction
As an ex aircraft engineer who specialised in helicopters with the British Army, I’ve always retained a fondness for rotary craft.  Unfortunately, these aren’t very well represented in flight simulators with many of the freeware models I’ve come across leaving a little something to be desired.

Photo Log Book Week #2 – Sun 19 Mar 2017 to Sat 25 Mar 2017

A tour in the EC-135. London to Sydney via Singapore in a 777 & off to Jacksons in a Twin Star

Towards the end of last week’s Photo Log Book I said that I was heading across to Ireland to start doing some flight testing of the H&S Design EC-135 and following a tour of Ireland, generously provided by the Fly Uk Flying Club.

And so, we begin this week’s journeys by heading out from London City Airport (EGLC)…

IEEE 1394, Thunderbolt & SATA Connections

Some of the slightly less common, but no less important connection types

IEE 1394
The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) 1394 connection is a high speed interface for peripheal devices that are designed to use the IEEE 1394 Standard.  Products that use this standard include Apple’s FireWire, Texas Instruments Lynx and the Sony Corporations iLink.

Universal Serial Bus (USB) Connections

A delve into the familiar Universal Serial Bus (USB) connections.

Universal Serial Bus (USB) Connections are used to connect multiple computer peripherals to a single port on a personal computer.  These connections provide high performance and require minimal device configuration.  USB connections provide support for hot-plugging, enabling the user to connect devices to a computer without powering down the system (commonly known as Plug-and-Play) as well as high-speed two way communication.

A final ‘goodbye’ tour in the MD-11 & first flight of a freeware Eurocopter EC-135

Ok, here’s the first of my Photo Log Book entries of my flights (and antics) in the world of flight simulation.

To get this going with something a little special, I’m starting a farewell journey for one of Fly UK’s cargo planes as they prepare to retire her from the fleet.  The McDonnell Douglas MD11-F has served the airline well, but with the strength and popularity of the Boeing craft in the fleet, it’s time for the MD11 to take a well earned rest.

Correcting Fuel Tank Selector Issues in FSX

A fix for resetting fuel tank selector problems in FSX

The Problem
I mentioned in my March Blog News Post that I’ve begun testing on, what looks to be, a very promising freeware EC135 for FSX.  At this time, I’ve not yet managed to complete a decent test flight with it due to an issue with fuel selection, caused by a quirk in the way FSX operates.
